Wine Institute's first "International California Wines Summit" for 21 of the world’s top buyers and media from Canada, the U.K., Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Japan and China, representing California's top seven wine export markets was held in October 2013 to provide these influential visitors with in-depth exposure to the quality and diversity of California wines today.

The Summit opened with a "State of the State" and industry briefing by Wine Institute President and CEO Bobby Koch, Vice President of International Marketing Linsey Gallagher and Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom. Tastings led by top U.S. wine trade and media presented more than 350 wines from around the state and events included more than 150 vintners. U.S. wine exports, 90 percent from California, set a record for the third consecutive year in 2012, topping $1.4 billion in value and are on track for another record year in 2013.
